We are an artist duo, Appias & Lang, creating temporary site-specific art. Our main tools consist of carbon monotype, light, cameras, and field recordings. The places we choose to create these installations are usually remote – abandoned buildings and other environments lost in time. Our artworks are abstract visual stories based on interpretation of cultural heritage.
Using light and new media art we repeat the action of magic by prehistoric artists, placing our created images in hidden places, bringing temporary life onto the walls. However, we don't leave any evidence that we were there. We do not alter the space, using only what is available to us. The space returns to exactly the same state as it was an hour before we entered it.
The documentation of these installations are what we bring to the gallery walls. We bring no audience to these fragile places. Instead, we bring those places to galleries and other spaces which are intended for an audience.
